Reflective Fabrications Named Finalist in Three 2026 Manufacturing Awards

Reflective Fabrications has been named a finalist in three categories at the 2026 Australian Manufacturing Awards: the Safety Award, Best Small Business Award and Digital Transformation Award.

Three finalist nominations. Three very different categories. One story of a manufacturing business rebuilding itself. From maintaining a strong focus on workplace safety to strengthening its manufacturing systems and continuing to build as an Australian manufacturer, the nominations recognise more than individual achievements. They reflect the way the business is evolving.

Three Categories, Three Sides of RF

The Australian Manufacturing Awards are run by Industry Update, a manufacturing trade publication, and are supported by the Victorian Government this year.

Industry Update reported a record number of nominations for 2026, with applications judged by a panel of almost 50 people drawn from manufacturing, industry bodies and academia. Organisers noted that the standard of applications was the highest since the awards began.

For RF, the three finalist nominations reflect three different parts of the business: its focus on safety, its strength as an Australian manufacturer, and the systems it has built to improve traceability and accountability.

Safety Award

Sponsored by Combilift Australia, this award recognises manufacturers whose products or processes contribute directly to safety outcomes.

For RF, safety sits at the centre of what it makes. Reflective sheeting, tape and high-visibility garments are manufactured for environments where being seen can be critical to keeping people safe.

The nomination recognises the role those products play in safety-critical workplaces, as well as the focus on quality and consistency behind their manufacture.

Best Small Business Award

The Best Small Business Award recognises manufacturers that compete through quality, service and performance rather than scale.

That is a strong fit for RF. For more than 38 years, the business has manufactured in Clayton South, with design, cutting, printing, stitching and assembly handled in-house. Keeping these processes under one roof gives RF greater control over production while allowing the team to respond to custom requirements and the needs of different industries.

The nomination reflects what a small Australian manufacturer can achieve through experience, specialist capability and close control of the manufacturing process. RF doesn’t need to be the biggest manufacturer to make an impact.

Digital Transformation Award

The Digital Transformation Award recognises manufacturers using modern technology, data, automation and digital systems to improve how they operate.

At RF, a clear example is its traceability system. Every order receives a unique batch number when it enters production. RF then records every raw material used, including tape, fabric, zips and thread, against that number. A physical sample of each tape batch is also retained, giving RF a record beyond supplier paperwork.

Each finished garment also has a QR code linking directly to warranty terms and the claims process. Any concern raised through the QR code receives an incident report number.

The system also works in reverse. If a raw material batch issue is identified, RF can trace every affected product and order, identify the relevant customers, and begin contacting them within 24 hours.

For buyers, that is the practical value of digital traceability. It is not just about having a system. It is about having the information needed to identify a problem and act on it quickly.

Why Finalist Status Is Worth More Than It Sounds

Finalist status is more than a line on a company profile. RF has been assessed alongside manufacturers from across Australia through an independent judging process, providing external recognition of the work happening across the business.

For organisations evaluating suppliers for a tender, fleet rollout or ongoing contract, that recognition provides another useful data point. It does not replace compliance documentation, standards certification or references. It adds context beyond the supplier’s own marketing.

Behind the Recognition

Managing Director Aaron Gray puts it simply: “We’ve turned around from a dying business to a growing business with a soul again, and that’s thanks to the staff who have gone through every stage of the business.“

Over the past year, Reflective Fabrications has moved from decline to growth, and that shift hasn’t come from a single decision made at the top. It’s come from the people on the floor: the staff cutting fabric, running the printers, sewing garments, and signing off quality checks at every stage of production, day after day, through the years when the business needed them most.

Three award nominations mark a moment, but the change behind them has been building for longer than that. For years, Reflective Fabrications has manufactured retroreflective sheeting, tape and high-visibility safety garments from its Clayton South facility in Melbourne. What’s different now is the story behind that manufacturing: a team that stayed through the past years is now the one building something that is growing again.

That same experience now sits behind every product RF manufactures. If you’re looking for a local manufacturing partner for safety clothing or reflective products, explore RF’s manufacturing capabilities or view the safety clothing range to find the right solution for your requirements.
